cackle will sell you six. They call it the city town specialWhich is a good hatchery to get chicks from?
I think she ate another hens egg this morning, she's so young. I was worried she was not leaving the nest enough. I know it's short periods, however the 5 min she was off I ran out to check clutch. There was egg yolk but all eggs. That's the first time I have seen her off of the nest. I'm debating getting her out for a few minutes but don't want to disturb her to much and have her abandon clutch.Yeah I think I'd be watching her like a hawk round hatching time!
Look in my profile under australorp breed thread pictures. I am sure you will find some.Does anybody have pictures of their one week old Australorp chicks?
So, I really believe Oreo ate one of her eggs. I forced her off eggs and one is missing. And only two eggs in next box I have 7 ladies.I think she ate another hens egg this morning, she's so young. Sounds like a accidental breakage ...Broodys are Looney ...
I take my broodys out at least once a day ...to let them stretch ...& move around ..
I also can check the eggs & turn them in case they arent doing it .

Broodies ...May not have enough sense to get out & eat & drink ...if an egg breaks all chickens will eat them ...
To prevent them from becoming Malnourished... I feed them in the nest .
I have a itty bitty dish ..I put it in with them . I put in very wet feed ...top it with scratch / sun flower seeds .
The Black Sunflower seeds usually bring them out of their stupor ...and they will eat ...if the food is really wet they get a drink too .
This is Chippie my Americana / EE...it is a small tupperware snack bowl
