Australorps breed Thread

Yeah I think I'd be watching her like a hawk round hatching time!
I think she ate another hens egg this morning, she's so young. I was worried she was not leaving the nest enough. I know it's short periods, however the 5 min she was off I ran out to check clutch. There was egg yolk but all eggs. That's the first time I have seen her off of the nest. I'm debating getting her out for a few minutes but don't want to disturb her to much and have her abandon clutch.

My surviving pullet has a comb.

She did not have one yesterday.

The count down begins... She's as big as her parent stock now. It will be within the week I believe.

I also think, and I'm sure I've already mentioned it, Sunday is a cockeral. My lonely only from my last botch hatch that's got some welsummer buddies has a comb. He's going in the fryer with the others in a few months.

So, I really believe Oreo ate one of her eggs. I forced her off eggs and one is missing. And only two eggs in next box I have 7 ladies.
When I forced her off all she did was run around with all feathers up and big poo! But no food, water or dust bath. I'm worried she's sitting on her meals instead of babies

Sounds like a accidental breakage  ...Broodys are Looney ...
I take my broodys out at least once a day ...to let them stretch ...& move around ..
I also can check the eggs & turn them in case they arent doing it .
I feel much better ! Thank you! LofMc said the same thing. Fewwww. Much better thoughts In my head now

Quote: They could be hungry !
Broodies ...May not have enough sense to get out & eat & drink ...if an egg breaks all chickens will eat them ...
To prevent them from becoming Malnourished... I feed them in the nest .
I have a itty bitty dish ..I put it in with them . I put in very wet feed ...top it with scratch / sun flower seeds .
The Black Sunflower seeds usually bring them out of their stupor ...and they will eat ...if the food is really wet they get a drink too .

This is Chippie my Americana / EE...it is a small tupperware snack bowl
