Australorps breed Thread

Looking for some good Black Australorps!!

Hello all, I have made many contacts through various sources trying to find willing and reputable breeders for Black Australorps. I was trying to stay local at first here in CO but then the search expanded to the outlying states and needless to say they either will not respond or get their birds directly from hatcheries or are not interested. We are looking for some good stock to add to our base flock this late summer or early fall and more importantly it is the bird that my son picked for his 4H project next year. I am not the type to wait till the last minute (if I can) and would like to get things lined up and a spot reserved but am pulling blank cards here. Any input on contacts? Thanks

I would be very careful right now with getting any birds from the Midwest. I hope you find what you're looking for, but right now a lot of places are going on lock down with the bird flu on the go.

X2.

While there is some hysteria involved with bird flu, I feel it's better safe than sorry in that instance. The powers that be take that pretty seriously. :(

If we were closer, I would love to help you.

I'm sure some is a bit hyped, but Iowa is already over 5 million chickens, Wisconsin is approaching 1 million, and Minnesota is a down a few million turkeys. As far as I know here its mostly large egg producing farms being hit, but apparently there has been one backyard flock that tested positive. And if I'm not mistaken some southern states are also dealing with it now.

Well, I am going to try and set something up regardless because I will have time between now and this Fall to watch how the Flu moves; either it will be ok or the whole world of chickens will have perished or turned into zombies due to the pandemic. Of the new cases reported in Iowa one had 3.8 million birds, then 1.7 million, 240,000 and 98,000 respectively so at this time the vast majority is commercial. Obviously there have been the small flocksters that have been hit as well but not to the same degree. I have birds coming from various parts of the country a few times this year mainly over the next couple of weeks and will keep it that way at this time. I have been in contact with the people and they are aware and paying close attention. Obviously no guarantee but people are watching for it. With it in the flyways I truly believe it is going to go where it wants. I am usually one of the people who get pretty hyped over these things but over the years fortunately many have fell far short of the doom and gloom consequences. I am going to have to rely on the professionalism and ethics of the people who I am purchasing from until it gets a lot worse for me to shut down all plans. I hope that does not come across as irresponsible but is my opinion at this time. Thanks

Hi
I have four pullets I'm picking up in two weeks from Castle Poultry in CT. I know it's a distance away from you but he ships and has won numerous awards. Check out his website
