Australorps breed Thread

0Momma,
I have tried to enlarge the image to no avail, and cannot tell with that pic. The comb should be a single comb, not rose, or pea. Legs and feet dark slate gray, with soles being pinkish white, not yellow. Body shape, weight and colors very important also. Skin under feathers has to be white, not yellow. Hope this helps.

Some pics of my lot, now 21 weeks old and no eggs yet. I am curious though, how old are Australorps usually when they stop growing? Because a couple of my girls seem quite small compared to my only fully grown Australorp :idunno I'm hoping they'll keep growing for a while yet and get bigger!
I agree they look like bantams. Where did you get them? I've wanted some ever since I had my first BA. So pretty! Their body shape makes me think they're bantams because bantams have different shapes than their large fowl breed. I've never seen Australorps that shape before. Love the blue hen especially!

Violet,
You have never seen that shape before because Maddog is from Australia and that is what they look like in australia. The Australorps that were imported to the US were mainly a utility strain not their show strain. You almost never see US aussies that look like that. As far as Bantams looking different than large fowl everything is the same except size and weight as far as SOP from the APA. If you are looking for BBS Aussies in the US then you should contact me.

My rooster is very hard to catch, I need to get a better picture of him. That was a far away picture of him in the garden, I may have to try and get one later today. Gramma Chick, if your talking to me. That's what mine looks like a little.

Maddog,
There is no scale in the pics to judge the size, however their conformation, and coloring is awesome! My aussies are quite large too at 20 weeks, but they are not fully grown or mature until they are one year old. The only way to tell is to weigh them. Again, beautiful chooks you have there.

Oh wow, you mean they could get bigger than they are at point of lay (I've lost track of how many weeks she is). Pepper is gonna be huge then, she is already way bigger than my faverolles.

Bantam Cochins look different than large fowl Cochins. You don't se giant round balls of fluff walking around, just little ones. So I just figured they were bantams. Bantams tend to be more round I think. I am looking for some bantam Australorps, but not right now, possibly next year
