Australorps breed Thread

Hello aveca. I enjoyed your pics ever so much. Buttercup is amazing! Beautiful girl. Sure got a kick out of your comments about the hens up on the wall.

They are a wonderful egg layer and very reliable winter layer..I have had just about every breed over the years... the australorps have been one of the best..I have always been real happy with them..

I went out and took a couple pics of my good hens ..The few I have left...I have been working at home so when I take a break I go out with them..its very cold today so they are getting away from the rooster on the rock wall..

This is buttercup..I have had a terrible time getting a fertile egg out of her..finnaly this year I found one with a bullseye..so have 9 in the incubator right now..Shes retired now, won her awards just trying to get some fertile eggs out of her..People ask me for some but I couldnt say yes, I was afraid they might get infertile eggs..in the past we got some really nice chicks out of her..I gave them to 4hers from here to LA.. I gave them away hoping that people would just enjoy them..Shes a little rooster rough.

You can see her nice comb here

The girls sunning themselves and hiding from the rooster

This hen is getting ready to molt so she is a little pale all over and the rooster really roughed up her tail.

juliet oh juliet...he hates it when they sit up on the rock wall

Hello CQ.
Oh boy do I understand & feel your frustration. We got everything ready for our March 1st pickup date for my BA chicks. I called to make sure the order was good. The lady in charge told me that I now have to wait until Mar. 29th! I am so bummed!

But really after waiting for three years what is another 28 days?

Supposedly a ranch store had Australorps, but when I got there, there weren't any! Now I have to wait till April 25th unless another store gets them.

Your son and his flock are wonderful. He looks so happy and proud of his birds. As the mother of two grown sons and the grandmother of a couple of grandsons I really was touched by your wonderful pics of them. I enjoy it so very much when youngsters get involved with healthy pursuits. Good for Jahdan! Thanks for sharing.

My son recently acquired a small flock of Black Australorps from a friend. Not sure on their linage, but she bought them at the APA National 2010 in Shawnee, OK. I think Jahdan did well for an 11 year old! He also picked up a pair of very bad hair day chickens from the lady. He is so proud of his new flock!

And the bad hair day chickens!
