Hi,
I have 3 black australorps but I can not tell them apart from my black giants. Anybody have any ideas? they are all over 6 months old, but no eggs!

Your australorps should have pinkish white soles on their feet if they are purebred. Your Black Giants or correctly Jersey Giants will have yellow soles on their feet if they are purebred Jersey Giants. I hope this helps you.

It takes longer for them to start laying when there are not enough daylight hours(12-14 hours). They will either start late or skip until January.

Are they looking like they are ready to lay eggs?

Squatting
Big Red combs and wattles
ripping up the nest box
Singing: Bok Bok BuhKock!

Post a couple of pictures. Make sure we can see the wattles and comb.

The Jersey Giants should also be taller with longer legs at 6 months--along with less curves.

Thanks so much Ron and Kurt, I will look into that tomorrow.
They do seem like their mature, cackling and all. Somebody did make a nest back in September, and since I moved them into a new coop with fancy nest boxes, they have not had much business either, except for roosting. Do a lot of feathers in one nest mean one of my girls was in there playing house?

Probably means someone is moulting. My coops are covered in feathers.

Hey y'all. I knew Halloween is supposed to be spooky, but look what I got out of one of my Tigercreek 11 month old Australorp PULLETS! There are no geese on my property and this is not an April fools joke. The pictures are the proof. Never have I seen an Australorp egg of this size. That is a US quarter, not a dime. The weights on the scale was checked several times.
