I know pics are too often inaccurate 'cos the buggers won't pose, but I'd pick your bird, mostly 'cos it seems to have much better curve on the front. Your opposition's front could be on a Sussex or RIR. Gee, I hope I haven't offended the breeder! Otherwise, from a distance, there's no obvious difference to me. Both are birds to be proud of.
Cheers Geoff

Yeah I like your bird the other looks more like Jersey Giant SOP than Australorp.

My Australorps finally started laying - eggs are a tad smaller than the Golden Comet Red Sex Link chicken but the yolks are amazing and the scrambleds are like neon yellow - Love em!

This is funny...

I have never considered attempting to train a chicken, with the exception of carrying punky cockerels around if they got a bit too aggressive with me. I have found that at least in my experience, carrying them, squeezing them to a point that might be bit uncomfortable while stroking their heads, seemed to work wonder. Most people do not seem to have the same results that I seem to be able to squeeze out of them.

Hey there hellbender. Something I wanted to share with you. I think you might get a kick out of it. I tried your hold and squeeze method.
Peppa was acting up again running up behind me to peck the back of my legs.
So I picked her up and held her tight against my side for awhile squeezing but not too hard so as not to hurt her.
Later when I went to hang up my coat I saw something white toward the backside of my coat. What the?
OMG! It was Peppa poo!
I don't think I will use your method again.

But alas, everyone has a different opinion of what they should look like including the artist of the standard photo.

Our lighter Blue Australorp has sprung a leak of the brown variety!

He is 12 weeks old. I am certainly not a breeder but would like to know what caused it and if it will always be there or if he will lose it during moult?

Hi Ben, He is looking great other then that red leakage showing through.
Generally one of the parents or a distant relative may also have some red leakage but it is hard to say.
Sorry to say but the red leakage generally becomes more evident as they mature and will not moult out.
It is a shame as he ended up being closer to the ideal shade of blue compared to your other blue cockerel.

Oh dang! At the moment it looks like just one feather on the left wing, nothing on the right one that I can see.

I liked his colour, the dark blue we have is really dark, and he was crowing at 10 weeks lol. I have only been holding off moving him along because you mentioned having good success with darks in the past.

I have another that started to crow today, a BA, he is tiny compared to the rest but has quite large comb and wattles for his stature. I will get some more pics tomorrow and report back.

Thanks for the info CB.
