Australorps breed Thread

John, Honestly they are all pretty consistent. I have my favorite 6 I will use in my breeding pens, but I have been Very Very satisfied with these chicks from start til now. I have 3 roos out of those that are pretty nice looking. My favorite is probably the least aggressive so I am hoping he will get the job done in the breeding pen. I guess time will tell.

I had 20 chicks to start with and raised them all! I have 12 left now, a few of the cockerels went to freezer camp.

I also have the young roo I hatched from eggs that came from the birds Stan had at Tigercreek. He looks really good, but comb may have an extra point or 2. Body structure is Nice IMO.

I ordered 10 straight run last spring and only got two pullets, boy am I tempted !!!! I just can't figure our the pens, I have been chewing on the problem ever since I first read your post.
The house in NC sold so we are not driving through your neck of the woods any time soon.

I had 9 pullets and 11 cockerels out of the 20 chicks. Bob had toe punched the chicks to keep track out of which of his breeding pens they came from. I am not sure how this ever happened but the males ended up all out of one pen while the pullets ended up out of another.

They are definitely closely related but are not full brothers & sisters. It couldn't have worked out any better for me. I will be moving some pretty soon and I will let them go cheap. Gotta make some room.

I will let you by late afternoon on the 3rd (private message) if there is any way that I can make room, with the weather below my tolerance for building another coop. I have three cockerels left after selling one culling three, so a pair of your pullets would fit perfect in my longer term plans.

I've been lurking for quite some time. This is a great thread, so keep it going please. I recently met Matt1616 at the Florida Sunshine Classic - Lake City, Florida show. He is getting together a trio of BA's for me, and we are going to meet at the Inverness show. I am sooooooooo excited. The reason I was at the Lake City show was because of Butch Gunderson. We were to meet there, and he was bringing some stock for me, but due to health reasons he was unable to attend. I decided to go anyway, and see if I could find a good breeder with top notch stock. Good BA's are very hard to find here. Mr. Carey, one of the judges, introduced me to Matt. He was/is nice. I really had no idea who he was when we were introduced, but have since done some research. I'm impressed! Waiting is HARD!

One of my Hupp Australorps got into it today with one of the older hens in the layer flock. Of course she is so big she just had to flair her neck feathers and squawk. The other hen quickly moved away from the treat.

It really cracked me up!

I know what you mean. My Aussie Roos get beat up by my Easter Eggers.

Good to hear there will be some other Australorps at the Inverness show. There weren't any at the fall show. I'll be there with 4 of my birds and I think another gal is bringing a few of hers. We might finally have a good showing. I'm tired of seeing nothing but Orpingtons.
