Australorps breed Thread

Dan, in that case, the White Leghorn would not be purebred.

EDIT: It just so happens that I DO know an expert on Poultry Genetics, and I will message him forthwith!
The information I got indicates the only way to have that red coloration is if there is another color in either of the birds, rendering them not purebred.

"Lorp x pure horns= 100% white chicks, many with random little black spots on down. Some may feather out with random black feathers, many will eventually lose them but some will keep until maturity. California Whites are essentially the same genetic pairing as lorp x horn (a black rooster over white leghorn hens that is) so looking at images of CW will give you a real good idea of feather color and pattern."

None the less, that's a fine looking hen and I would certainly be happy to own her! A few red feathers should not affect her laying ability.

That is Spot on! Again I agree with you!

I'm new and I am just starting to sell hatching eggs from my Black Australorps. I plan to cull down to exhibition quality but right now I've got pet-quality, backyard flock hatching eggs for sale. PM me.

Someone a while back asked me to post pics of McMurray hatchery BAs.

These are 1 year old in ten days. As I said previously, they are not show birds but they are great layers. I wish I could have gotten a better pic to show the Green sheen in feathers.

I picked up some eggs from Matt1616 are few weeks ago, those are hatching out today. Hope to improve our flock a little.
