Australorps breed Thread

Maddog,
Depending who you talk to or what standard you refer to you will get different weights. I can tell you this for sure. If the chooks weight is over 2 lbs. or .9 kg it is a stardard bred not a bantam at 21 weeks. The American SOP from the APA has weights for cocks at 8 lbs and hens 6 lbs. (standard) and like 7 lbs for cockerels and 5 lbs for pullets. The bantams at 30 oz. which is less than 2 lbs. Don't ask me about kgs. LOL

Thanks!

That sounds pretty similar to the weights I was reading about.

When I get the chance, I'll weigh some of them. I'm sure they'll all be over 0.9kg, except for one of the black ones, I'm not so sure about her.... but I'm not so great at guessing weights, lol.

10Momma,
Sorry to say not a blue australorp. The comb is the dead giveaway. That bird has either a pea comb or a rose comb mixed in its background. Also, the body comformation is way off. An Australorp is supposed to be the bird of curves, more like Maddogs chooks that we try soooooo hard to breed here in the US.

I have a question, I have a 10wk old chick that was supposed to be an OE (hatched out of a OE egg) but it looks a lot like a BA. The lady I get eggs from has given me a RIR egg in the past and it hatched out looking like a BA with a few red hackle feathers. She explained to me she has a giant BA that jumps pins to visit the ladies! LOL What color egg do you think I'll get from my OE/BA Pullet?
My RIR/BA of corse gives me pretty med brown eggs.
Do both of these girls have the BA look to them?
I'll post pics of both girls

That's what I was afraid of, its so hard to know what he is. I used to have a black australorp rooster 2 years ago, but he saddly had to go. He turned mean on us for some reason, and would attack my daughter breaking skin. We still have his mate who is a pretty australorp hen. She is the queen bee of the flock.

My #2 BA/RIR

You will most likely get a brown egg from your girls. The blue egg gene is linked to the pea comb. It looks like both of your pretty girls have straight combs

top one looks very similar to one of my ee hens. Supposed araucana. I suspected ba x after seeing her walk side by side with my ba hen and seeing shes just as tall with the same oily sheen.
