I was Sold Two Chicks and The feed Store had Black Australorps and Black Copper Marans And They Gave us the Australorps Instead of the marans, like we asked for, But I couldn't be happier with the Girls I got from them! One has since Passed away, But the other is alive and well. I know she is A hatchery Chick But I just Want to know What you think about her Quality Wise?
Sorry for The Bad pic... It was super dark out

It is hard to tell about shape and you need to get her weight. She should weigh in the 5.5 to 6.5# range. The eyes should be darker and there looks to be a bit of color leakage. The comb looks like it has enough points but is not straight so that would be points off.

This is a nice version of the American SOP:

Your girl looks sweet and is nice looking for a hatchery BA.

Gramma,
The Black is 7 months old. The splash and the blue cockerels are only 6 months old. Coloring and conformation definitely changes in a year with juvenile molts, and weight gain.

C stands for Cock Bird (aka rooster?) Over 1 year
K stands for cockerel 0 to 1 year old
P for pullet 0 to 1 year old
H for hen Over 1 year old

PS My grandad and the old timers told me there was no such thing as a rooster, it was cartoon name for a cock bird, go figure!

Your Birds always look nice ...I miss the how many cockerels game ...
Thanks for the info Kurt ..I had never seen it that way ...It makes sense ...now that I know the code ..
I think Rooster is a nicer name ...
I have seen people overuse the work cock in chicken conversations...which didnt impress me .

Hi, I'm a newbie. I was just wondering when an Australorp loses their white feathers? I have a 6 week old that is mostly black, but still has white on her face (like a cute penguin) and just a couple of white feathers on her chest. I know adults don't have any white. I was just curious. She is such an amazing girl.

Thanks

I totally believe what you say...but can/will you please explain what you mean when you say she's amazing???

All in fun...just want to see if it's the same thing I would mean...
