Stan, yes I will showing at Lake City next weekend. I am bringing 20 birds of 5 different breeds. I'm bringing 2 Australorps, a Cockerel and a pullet. They are a little young I think but I'm bringing them anyway. They are in excellent condition I just think they could use a little more time to grow. My line is not one of the lines that is crossed with the Orps. The Australorps I seen at Crossroads were as big as the biggest Buff Orpingtons that were there and the type is getting more and more like an Orpington. Hopefully whoever judges at Lake City will judge them to the standard and not place the Orp looking birds that are way to large.

Are there any australorp breeders in BC (British Columbia) Canada? I prefer the blue or splash varieties if I get the choice

I was just checking out the new breed section here. It ranks breeds by rating. Australorps are currently ranked number one!

I was thinking just today that they are about the perfect chickens for me. They are friendly but not needy. Calm and good foragers. They also do well when I have to lock them in the coop for the day. They are a lot different form my Rhode Island Reds, Bard Rocks and Golden comets. It will be interesting to see what the Americanas and Marans are like(I hatched them on Dec 21, 2011). In February I will be getting some Partridge Rocks and Silver Dorkings too.

It looks like the only ones that compare are the Basque Chickens.

CUBAKID, I agree with you 100% about following the SOP. However, you stated that the pic of a BA on the breed page had a squirrel tail. The first pic on the breed page is my bird "DUNDEE" standing in the bushes and he definately does not have a squirrel tail. That being said, maybe I missed something.

My pullets that I hatched in July have started to lay, and lay they ARE!! 2 pullets and 13 eggs in 7 days. What a great way to start. I'm setting them!

tigercreek, nice looking chickens and congrats on the eggs. My BA's and Delawares are the only ones that have been laying well over the winter.
