Plantcity,
have a close look at my pics and it should be clear. There are some pics of some of my other birds posted earlier on the thread too. You can possibly pick it in my avatar, which is regarded as about as good as a roo gets over here. The face should be free of feathers and wrinkles.
Cheers Geoff fro Aus

groche, you need to be sending us some hatching eggs so we can get some top australian version over here..that bird in your avatar is out of some ray connor stock..im kind of suprised you dont know who he is...hes very famous in poultry circles in australia.

I do know who he is, Aveca. On your recommendation, I've ordered his book. However, I don't think that even he would claim to be the origin of every decent line here. As you have pointed out to me previously, we have long had interstate rivalries here, and I think there might be some miffed old breeders down south here if they thought all their good lines were being attributed to Ray. Not saying there's not a lot of his good blood out there though! I'm glad you like my birds and I wish I could send you some eggs. The pullets haven't started laying yet and the hen's just finishing moulting so I couldn't provide'em anyway! Soon though. You're clearly more knowledgable and a more experienced breeder than me and I imagine what you could do starting off with my lot. I would like a few more 'critical' comments, though. I mean, do you think I'm on the right track with my breeding recipe? Some folk here reckon you can't keep track of your lines if you begin with more than one, or maybe two hens. I figure they must be starting with a pair that's close to their 'ideal'. You're not there yet, and I'm not dealing with birds that are my 'ideal' but hoping to use them to get there, so I don't want to follow that theory! The same people say that you shouldn't start with different lines as there are too many genetic combinations so you'll get too much variation because you're not fixing desirable features in your line. Dumb at genetics, but there seems to be a logic in there. You've probably come across the posts from one of our Queensland poultry clubs featuring good interviews with their 'Master Breeders'. The Aussie expert from there pushes the above line. Nevertheless, I'm gonna start with 8 girls from 3 or 4 different lines, each bringing to the equation features I'm looking for. As they are all good quality, all up to the standard and I'm breeding to the standard, I'm not overworried. There may be some bad recessive genes which might crop up but I can cull and not breed from girls again that aren't producing what I want. What you reckon?
Cheers Geoff from Aus

Here are some photos of my Australorps. All were bred by tigercreek and FuzzyButtsFarm raised the cockerel until last week. The cockerel is 5 months old and the pullets are 4 months. What do you think?

The cockerel is still in isolation, so I will have to post other views later.

This is the smallest pullet. All the other photos were too blurry.

The tails are looking good, but are still developing.

They have good wide backs. Those are some of tigercreek's Delawares in the shot. They are 1 month younger.

Very pretty! Love the Delawares, too!
