Australorps breed Thread

Well, I grew up raising Red Stars, and Leghorns. I ordered 6 female Buff Orpingtons from a hatchery, and by mistake, they sent me Black Australorps. I have known of the breed, but have never raised them. Seeing as how I am now an Australorp Dad, I'm researching the breed.

I know they'll be good layers, and even though they are not what I wanted, I'm sure I'll come to appreciate the breed. They'll have a fine home, well cared for, and I'm attached to them already. I figure they were born on the 18th of June 2012.

Welcome Imiss,
sometimes what's meant to be is what happens! I think you'll find it a happy accident. There are really clued up people on this site, who'll make your Aussie adventure really enjoyable. I think they're great 'chooks' (what we call chickens over here), but of course, as an Aussie, I'm biased! Keep posting pics to show us how they're developing.
Cheers Geoff from Aus

Congratulations!

How old are they? If young, the Rooster may calm down. Give them time and Post pictures please

Bye,

Ron
Lady said there bout 2 years old. So hes kinda young. Im glad he protects his ladies though. And i will post pictures soon!

They are very sweet birds, and the only one of my flock who decided to hatch some babies for me which was very much appreciated!! She is a fantastic mother. The australorps are very pretty in the sun when their feathers gleam with a purple and green tint. I'm working on blue australorps, breeding them with my giant blue orpington roo.

Geoff from Aus, I was thinking the same thing, sometimes mistakes turn out to be for the best. I checked out your photos, Your birds are nice, especially that rooster, beautiful roo.
@ Steph739 keep us posted on those blues, I would like to see how they turn out. The more I educate myself about the Australorp the more I'm liking them.
And a big thank you for this thread, and all of the knowledgeable people who contribute.

I'll keep post pic as they grow.

I've got three Australorps -- they're around 14 weeks old now. No eggs yet, but very pleasant birds. We also have four Golden Comets (I think). Here is a picture of part of the flock (taken about a month ago):
