Authentic Woods KD (Knock Down) 10' by 16' Coop Build

Sweet!!!
I see he's wearing a 'GnatHat'...... black flies bad up there?

Bad does not describe it. The season is about six weeks long, until the heat comes on and kills them. After that we have mosquitoes, deer flies, etc. those I can deal with, black flies are the worst we have (no gnats!).

And just in case anyone thinks I ignored my coop build I got up early and cut the rest of the exterior boards for the 1st wall section, one board left but it will be narrower than the others. My pine is still wet and will shrink, I may wait a few weeks to cut the last one, I will also nail only one side of the battens to allow the shrinkage without splitting the batten.

I use the term 'gnat' because many call them that down here...
...and it rhymes with 'hat' :D
But, yes, I know they are black flies.
Several threads on here about them killing chickens, and other livestock, down south(Indiana and Louisiana).

Ah, I did not know that. I have seen the threads but thought that they were some different pest that y'all had to deal with. Guess we suffer together.

Isn't there some that say cedar is bad for chickens?

Yes but I believe that they are referring to it's use as a bedding material? My use is as structural lumber because of it's durability outside and because I got it for free. If any of my future birds die from doing a woodpecker on the underside of the coop so be it. The coop itself is all pine.

Very busy week but managed to get some time in to complete Panel A the largest and move it outside of the garage. The wood is still green and very heavy so outside standing up is the best place for it to be. Very happy with the board and batten look.

I spent another 5 hours today on this panel so a total of 8.5 hours to build. This and Panel B the opposite side and with the door are the biggest and most tedious as every board is a different length plus a bit of learning. Nevertheless I am a long way from my estimate of 3 hours per for the 14 sections so I will increase the average time to 4 hours per section.
