Area under garden is bush roots and poison ivy. Black plastic prevents anything growing from underneath, perforated for drainage.

I will cut plastic back for aesthetics but birds will not free range nor have access in random outings; in my neck of the woods gardens need fences to keep wild foragers at bay.

I will do aprons around all of the run and the three sides of the coop bottom.

Also @jthornton The HC walls will extend to the underside of the pole shed roof although I have not yet figured out how I will do the attachment such that the profile openings of the tin sheets on the roof will defeat varmints. Someone herein mentioned cutting a wood trim piece that will fit but not sure how practical that is.

We just finished our 8x16 coop yesterday. I hardware clothed that thing to death.
We also did cut the trim on the back side of the coop to go around the roofing beams and sit flush with the roof itself. It really didn't take long and was a lot nicer than dealing with hardware cloth in tight spaces. For the front, I measured and cut 2x4 bits to fit between each roofing beam. I hardware clothed the sides.

I did go a bit nuts on the "floor". I started by ripping the sod (six to eight inches down) from the build location out and piling it up. Once we sunk the posts, and attached the 2x6 base frame, I hardware clothed the whole ground and attached it to the base. I wove the pieces together. I HATE rats. Once the hardware cloth was attached, I put the sod back in on top. It was a heck of a lot of work, but I think it was worth it.

I now wander around my property making piles of "small" branches mostly dried and of bark and of any other mixed size woods bits to be the starter layer for my covered run.

You know, I just find those guys trimming trees in the local area and ask them to dump the truck in my back area. I get free chips and they don't have to pay to drop them at the dump and drive all the way over there.

Can be hard to find those guys and most folks don't have a place to store a huge pile.

Yeah I'm never as lucky as this either! Seems to me like we pay through the nose for every. single. thing.

If you have the space in your yard and the truck can get there they will give you chips for free. Your electric company pays these people and have a forestry rep they can put you in touch with. He can possibly setup an dump day for you.

Used to get 4 - 5 loads on my aunts farm and I would have to fill the pickup with stake body sides to the top twice and mulch the blue berries and black berries. Talk about a sore back. I remember being 16 and my uncle jingled the keys and I thought I was running an errand in town.

I got a 2 acre yard and wish it was 30
