I slept maybe an hour total overnight, lol. Avery was extremely restless. Poor girl. I'm sitting with her now. I think she's really close.

That is from a puppy sac, she should have one shortly. Make sure you rub it with a towel when it gets here. Stay calm, you've got this!

Six now!!! 3 boys 3 girls.
Light blue baby is incredibly tiny and had a rough start. Took a minute to get him to pink up and breathe. Poor boy. He's way smaller than the other ones. View attachment 3478373View attachment 3478372

It was born, I say it counts. Doesn't help me, my guess was nine. Gee, I'm sorry about the lost puppy.

My guess was 7 though...and yet I want number 8 counted...

Lol! I think probably 7 would be the winning guess. Since the eighth one had no chance of being born and didn't make it anywhere close to term.

7 for the win! Poor pup though.

She's doing so good. She is being so gentle and attentive. She's cleaning each one like five times, haha. And she keeps nudging them towards her to nurse. So amazing. View attachment 3478867View attachment 3478866

So she still hasn't passed all her placentas?
I would speak to your vet about that, and see what they say. She might need an injection to clear everything out.

Well none of the names will be permanent, just nicknames until they go to their new homes. I may keep a couple to train but I don't know if I'd keep girls or boys yet.
But it could be a temporary name possibly!

So... sad update. Avery ended up laying on the boy with the dark blue collar yesterday evening. I checked on them right before I came down to eat supper, and I had a camera on them too. He liked to snuggle next to her face, and I think he got under her too much. She probably moved a little to check on the nursing puppies and laid back down on him without noticing. I feel awful. We did the wider guard rails on her box and I thought that would prevent this, but I guess not. I found him when I checked them again as soon as I was done with supper, which I only took probably 15-20 minutes to finish. It happened so fast. I tried CPR for five minutes but I just couldn't get any response. I feel just horrible. He was my mom's favorite, and I think she's kind of blaming me for not taking them out and putting them in their box before leaving. I didn't hear or read anything about this being such an issue in all of my research. How was I supposed to know apparently they can't be left in with her at all? I thought they were supposed to be together all the time.

Anyway, I put the rest in their separate box overnight, and got up a few times to let them nurse, but Avery whimpered and complained all night and I slept only a couple hours again. I don't see how it's going to work long term but I can't let another get laid on. She's just so big, and even though she's trying to be really good, it's her first time and she doesn't really know what she's doing.
I'm so so sad.
