The wild birds may be asymptomatic but still can infect domestic poultry.
There are multiple strains of HPAI, but I have been looking at H5N1, which is the one confirmed here in NC

I am also in central NC and have been keeping a close eye on this. I believe they are suggesting that anyone with poultry take extra measures to keep them safe. Keeping them in covered run or inside as much as possible from what I have read. I have a lot of roosters and everyone is locked up at night, but during the day the boys are yard roosters. I'm planning on starting to keep my birds up, somehow someway starting tomorrow. I've heard that this should be over with in 30 days as long as it doesn't start spreading. I believe songbirds are one of the unaffected species. Crows, buzzards, etc are vulnerable to transmitting and infecting others, including domestic poultry

Songbirds have been important vectors in previous avian flu epidemics. Small birds such as sparrows got into commercial poultry farm buildings in Virginia and infected the chickens inside

I've been looking at the flyways, and it looks like our flyway merges a ton with infected birds. I'm keeping an eye on the states to figure out when I need to lockdown my birds. Its so crazy, its jumped 3 states in two weeks!

It has been confirmed in a commercial turkey flock in Indiana. Just keep your birds inside, in a covered run. They might not like it for awhile but too bad

Easier said than done if your run isn't made with hardware cloth and the sparrows are always present plus it's the middle of winter with snow up to up the back of your knees.

I have just as much snow but when my hubby and I built our coop, we knew to put a roof on it. I wouldn't have it any other way when we get feet of snow every winter
