Avian Influenza

The surprisig/interesting things to me were:

Wood is not a surface of cncern because it kills virus on cntact.

Great Britain allows live decoy birds for waterfowl hunting. Are they the same as the Call Ducks developed in the Mid-Atlantic States?

"Regular contact with wild birds and their LPAI viruses may produce an environmental “vaccine” protection against HPAI viruses."

They only recorded one mallard and one wigeon in this year's outbreak. But, there were 238 swans. Is that because swans are larger and easier to find if they die?

I don't know what call ducks are, so can't answer that question I'm afraid.

Ducks carry and spread the virus but do not suffer from it ordinarily - they've developed resistance to the symptoms. There are lots of geese as well as swans listed among the infected wild birds, and yes, bigger birds are more likely to be spotted if ill or dead.

The role of people in spreading it is also interesting don't you think? (the 'fomite' route of transmission).

That part is pretty standard for other types of livestock and other types of virus. It's frustrating because no matter how many biosecurity measures you take you can always dream up other possible ways to get infected. Maybe you should stop and wash your car before returning home? It's like washing everything in your grocery bag because of COVID.

I’m not familiar with the two-fold and three-fold language that the report uses and googling it makes me more confused (I haven’t been sleeping well at all!). Which is a larger reduction?

It's gibberish. The whole thing is based on expert opinion with no new experimental evidence to back it up.

A projected two-fold reduction would result in only half as many outbreaks.
