A yard would give you about 3 inches at the bottom. If you have a truck i would buy in bulk.

I’m assuming 8x10 is feet
Once you decide how thick you want it just calculate the volume where I’m from we buy sand buy the cubic metre (builders supply yards) so I assume you could buy similar

then you need to decide if you want spare sand or just go thicker at start so you won’t need it for a while
Quail will slowly fling it out and when you pick up droppings and such you will bin some

I would wait for some one else’s option as I have alway kept them on grass or dirt also work out who much it’s cost and how you can buy it in Australia I bought sandy loam for $60 for 4 or 5 cubic metre it was for top soil over a clay base

Ok so I’ve found a place that calculate a cubic ton or yard would give me 2-3 inches of sand. So that would be a good start and I’ll buy bags of sand in between or if I need more. I’m dreading the idea of moving that much sand but my friend says he will help so soon I hope to have that done

With a shovel and a wheel barrow its not that bad. Bagged sand is 3x the price of bulk here.

you can use a base calculator for sand,mulch or gravel. i have 2 aviaries......the larger one takes 20 bags of mulch and the smaller is a mix of sand and pea gravel (6 bags each) for 6’ square

I just get standard yard mulch at RK

I brought some cheap mulch before and the dye came off onto my goats turned me off of colored mulch.. From what I calculated, it’s 47-50 for a truckload of sand vs 35 or so bags at 3.50-4.50 each. So going to save a lot with the truckload. And I have to clear my walkway for the wheelbarrow but it shouldn’t be to bad. I’m still considering adding a lime base first and now I also may need to consider lining the bottom with another 2x4 for depth
