AYAM CEMANI - BREEDING & DISCUSSION.

Both genders of chickens have combs, so if she has a comb that's not an indication that she's a cockerel. What matters is how old she is and how big the comb is. A picture would definitely help. Is this a just hatched chick? Because if so then there's no way to tell gender by appearance yet.

Hopefully the woman was actually practiced at vent sexing because it's very hard to do. Even the best, those who work at hatcheries and do literally hundreds of chicks a week, can only do it with 90% accuracy.
A couple new pictures.

At six weeks old with a comb that big, I'm thinking 'she' is a he :( And he's not an ayam cemani either. Ayam cemanis can have feather stubs sometimes, but not full on feathered legs like that. At best he's an ayam cemani cross.

I guess the parents were alone in the box, I asked if there was any chance one of her other chickens got in there, and she said no. I had read that they can get feathered feet, but I suppose you would probably know better. She/he has had a comb from day one... and it hasn't really changed very much. besides the feathers, she/he has very dark skin and is black all over, mouth included.

Thank you for your help. It’s okay if it’s a cross, but don’t be upset if I still hope it’s a girl, cause I can’t keep a roo, and I only have one lol! I don’t mind the feather feet, I find them cute, maybe it’s crossed with a French copper maran? Or a silkie? It is really small, almost bantam size.

When I said I suppose you would know better I was not being fasciitis, I was being serious, as I was reading some peoples descriptions of the Ayam Cerami, and what they were saying as if it was a new bird and then saying that it wasn’t a broody breed, everything after was just opinion with no background or research. Ugh, too much misinformation out there. Better to go with what a breeder says.

Oh no worries, I knew you weren't being sarcastic :)

No ayam cemanis have feathered legs. Some chicks hatch with feather stubs, which is a a few patches of down on the legs or a light line down the outside of the shanks, but none ever hatch with fully feathered legs like yours. Does the parent stock the woman who gave this chick to you has have feathered legs?

Yes, there was a lot of misinformation out there about them :) They do go broody, etc.

With as much comb as your little one has at six weeks, I really think there is a very slim chance that it's a pullet, sorry :(
