That was my other guess......
I figured you are the god of hatching or owned stock lol (didn't know you were female either). Yeah if you count only fertile eggs i'm getting 90%+ now. The temp fluctuations in the repti make me suspect and the hot spots do as well. I paid 350 bucks for the reptipro 5000 with egg turners. It was definitely over priced. The fact that the 6000 exists for half the price of the 5000 to me is admission of the fact that the 5000 was inferior. But like I said, all is not lost as it makes for a good egg storage unit....
When you said 100% to me that meant 100%, not 100% of the fertile eggs....... So now I know better and that's believable.
Yep, still learning but will never be convinced that the reptipro is some kind of superior incubator. My hatcher has been painted but it's all in pieces. Have to mix some soil to start some maters and peppers then I'm going to put her together tonight.
I do appreciate your advice even though we don't agree about the repti... I think what you just offered there is great info because we weren't washing our hands before collecting eggs. We kept some eggs longer than 8 days and didn't tilt the eggs in storage 3 times a day. We didn't weigh the eggs before we put them in the bator and obviously didn't check weight through incubation or check air cell size. Now that we have changed our ways and educated ourselves better we are doing much better. Could it be that our new incubator is superior to the repti? I think it is, the temps don't fluctuate and I don't have to open the door but to add some water to the res. Yes at that point once a day the temp and humidity drops for maybe 2 minutes.
As far as a hatcher to me the reptipro is a pita. Have to make a new shelf every time we hatch and there just isn't enough room for 50 birds to run around in the thing. The hatch comes out but it takes 3 days and i believe that due to the temp fluctuations and hot spots. Will my new home made hatcher work better? I hope so lol..... I'm going to take some pictures of it in pieces and as i put it together, then in operation and hopefully into hatching.
If you are happy with the repti that's a good thing. Hate to see people unhappy when they spend money they work hard for....... I do think that your hatching expertise is a major reason you get such great hatches and I think it's not a good choice for a beginner at all....... I'm a rookie and some instructions would have been a nice thing. My GQF at least came with good instructions....... Even still I believe the repti is a difficult machine to master.
