BaaKaaawk's Spring 2020 Coop Build Thread :)

Agreed! When they sent me home from work 3 weeks ago, I knew I'd have some extra time on my hands and idle minds are not for me. :)
From where are you sourcing your lumber? Is it all pressure treated pine? I went to my local Lowe's the other day and there was a line snaking all the way across the front of the store to just get in. Talk about doing the opposite of social distancing.

I got my initial large delivery from a local lumber yard, but I've hit Lowes quite a few times for odds and ends. I'm lucky because there are 3 all within about 10 minutes of me.

Yes it is 100% treated pine for everything. I just want to build this thing and never worry about it again. :)

I'm surprised they allowed that line though, in the ones by me (I'm just north of you in Charlotte) they have X's on the floor every 6 feet you have to stand on. It's actually pretty smart and works.

I was surprised as well, but people around Atlanta aren't taking things as seriously as they should for some reason. I wish the authorities would start issuing some fines for non-compliance with the rules.

Didn't make quite as much progress as I hoped today because I had to actually work from home (go figure!) and do some material runs. But I did get the cupola built and installed and got my roof deck planned and started. I should be able to complete the roof decking tomorrow and maybe even the roof. We will see!

@aart I was going to put 2x4 Louvers here on the cupola in front of the screen, you think that will be adequate for upper ventilation? I'll also have the 3 spaces on each side between the middle rafters I will screen in.

Do you mean three 2x4's set at an angle?
I'd use smaller......1x's.... trickier but ......
Chekc out these wooden louvers by @jthornton :

Ok Cuploa is done. I wouldn't wish a cupola build on an enemy... wow. But it turned out well and is a shining white beacon of what is to come on an otherwise brown frame lol.

I went with 2x4's because I couldn't get 1x's to seat well as the louvers. I left a nice 6" space at the top and there is 2" between each one- so plenty of ventilation I think. Thanks!
