So these are my babies

I think the one above is the momma of the black one considering she is the ONLY black chicken in my flock, can chicks take on completely different colors than their mother? I didn't think any of the black chickens eggs had hatched until I saw the black chick.

The one on the right got pecked by the black hen when it was only a few hours old so we have them separated now.

The golden chick at the back in the picture above I think came from my EE's egg.

They all love to climb on my other hen Mofo :p

None of them are very used to human contact yet so they tend to hide when they see us

Cute! They should have coloring of one of the parents usually. Did you separate all the young ones or just the one? If possible let mama take care of the brood. It's less work on you and mama knows best. Don't let the little ones eat layer feed though which is not good for them long term. Might want to switch to flock raiser which they all can eat and offer calcium(oyster shells) as a side dish. If you are going to brood them separately then chick starter of course.

I separated the 2 hens with all the chicks in the hen house, and the rooster, EE and black hen get the rest of the coop. I have chick starter for the chicks and when I let them all out the hens eat from their feeder. My rooster is a bit of a jack@$$ so I don't trust him around them especially because the hen with the babies is his favourite hen to pick on. I'm afraid shes so scared of him that she wouldn't stand up for her babies if he did something

I'm waiting to see if any of the chicks are roos so I can get rid of my old one, he really is very nasty to everyone and everything that steps outside. One of the yellow chicks that I picked up shook it's head and I felt some fluid fly out and land on my hand, is this a bad thing? Should I be worried?

Might want to put some antibiotic or blucoat on the wound. There are some antibiotics you don't want to use so do a little research or just use the blucoat.

Sorry I meant the other yellow chick and I assume it flew out of its beak/nose. I'm not too worried about the other one, it's not pussing or leaking anything and no one is pecking at it so I think that one will be ok
