Babies having babies

What is the earliest that you all have had experience with hens laying? Isn't between 5 and 6 months the norm? It is kinda concerning me. I'm a new chicken mom. I already lost a little roo and it broke my heart. I don't want anything to happen to anymore.

8 weeks seems impossible.
Could they have not been truthful about their age when you bought them?
Could they be banties?

Sorry to be wearing ya'll out with questions but...I just went to give them some cool fresh water and noticed that my australorp is acting funny. She was laying there and stretching in a way I have never seen any of the chicks do. So I watched her for a little while. She keeps moving and stretching like she can't get comfortable. Think she might be one of the culprits?

They would need to be at least 4 months old to lay even if they are bantums.
