It will be ok! Be sure to have a top on it, she'll be hopping/flying out of there in no time. 1/2" HC works fine for a top. If available, I'd use Aspen shavings for bedding.

I like aspen better, smaller size and have a earthy smell instead of pine. Doesn't stink when wet, pooped on, like pine does. So, yeah, preference.

Okay great so the smell wont affect her! She is really growing fast! Her little wings are sprouting feathers and it’s adorable. We have mesh lying around I’ll use that to cover it tomorrow. This wine box has a lid so I’ll close it but leave a gap for air. Thanks guys!

I keep mine on shavings. My chicks are the same age as your little chick.

I've also used bath towels for about the first week or so, with paper towels put down and sprinkled the feed all over the paper towels, that way, where ever they peck, they will find food....but it gets real messy...real fast! with alot of chicks.

Me too, and my hubby says the same thing. However, if I leave for the day and the big chicks knock over a waterer, even tho it’s bungee corded to the side, I come home and it smells like one of those crappy pet stores where you feel dirty just walking inside lol. I find hemp and aspen are really good for preventing smells, but too pricey for my needs.

I'm thinking of trying the Aspen ball things like 007 said but only for Lucifer, he seems to think the dust bowl is his bed the pine is for bathing (gets in his water more then the others) and stuff like that, maybe the Aspen will work better for him
