I just got ten chicks from Basin Coop today, and even before we got them, one was very sick-looking. I finally got to see her when she got home, and she is very lethargic. She will drink from a pipette, but not eat. We have given her Rooster Booster vitamins & electrolytes, and I've had her away from the other chicks in a rag, where I've been carrying her around for a while.

The people at Basin said that they had the group for about two weeks, so I'm assuming she's about 2 1/2 weeks old.

In the brooder, she would not stand. Instead, she would sit on her rump and sleepily blink (assuming she was not on her side). When I was taking pictures of her, I noticed his right leg was a little splayed. I may tape his legs, but I'm not sure yet.

Please help immediately! I don't want to lose her :(

Is there any poo stuck to her butt? If not, I would feed her raw egg yolk. Just mix it, dip your finger in & touch it to her beak a few times as long as she continues to move her mouth like she is eating when you do it. Repeat every 15-30 minutes when she is awake.

If she has poo on her butt. I can direct you how to get it off and clear her.

That chick looks to be day-old or at most a couple of days old. A 2-3 week old chick would have lots of real feathers replacing the chick fluff. Make sure the chick is kept warm, about 90F. You can try to tempt it to eat by mixing chick feed with water to make a mash. You've made a good start by giving electrolytes.

I hope your little chick makes it! Try not to beat yourself up if it doesn't survive, it happens.

She had terrible pasty butt when we first got her, but we fixed her up since.

I've raised plenty of chickens. I currently have nineteen chickens, six of which are laying, and the rest permanently outside.

Ok good. I had one with horrible pasty but and she was super weak like yours. After 2 long shifts of cuddling and egg yolk, I was confident enough to put her back in the brooder. She stayed a little behind the rest for awhile but the weakness passed. I hope your little one pulls through.

We'll see. She's been asleep the entire time, and will only stay awake for a few moments if I jostle her too much or put her down. However, she's bright-eyed and chirps, so I believe she's not sick.

Update: She is still lethargic; she'll wake up when I give her water or pick her up, but only for a few moment. She won't walk at all, only lay down with her eyes closed. Her poop is somewhat watery, and is chocolately-brown and white.
