we live in a drafty house I have the heater set on 90 but theres no way the whole room is 90 plus they are in a plastic dog kennel which actually has several cool spots to escape from the heat the floor is cooler etc etc the heater is pointing towards the very front corner but to where the heat reflects away from the rest of the box they are still mostly huddled to where the heater is pointed but I have checked them constantly and they seem content now they get up and wander around the box eat drink hop around etc then come back and huddle in the same spot.. They definitely are letting me know what they like and don't like already =) they get very loud when they are hot or cold... I won't have a heat lamp until tomorrow this is just the set up to make it through the night tonight as I mentioned before... I love surprises just not ones that make me work so much lolAre you putting the entire room at 90+ degrees? That's too hot and you'll cook your chicks. Chicks need a warm spot, not a warm world. Broody hens keep chicks warm underneath them, but out from under the hen they're ambient temperature. Do you have a heat lamp or similar? That's what you need. Chicks don't tolerate being kept too warm all the time, they dehydrate, get pasty butt and have high mortality rates. A heat lamp, providing a warm spot, and plenty of space to get out form under the heat is the best environment to raise chicks.
