3 week old baby chicks, free range with mother. I noticed several have these black crusty growths on their faces. They seem healthy and act normal. I tried to pick one off but it bled and seemed very painful. We have lots of chickens and I don't see this on any other chickens. I am in Hawaii. They eat a lot of bugs and we supplement corn, fruit, and Macnuts. Anybody ever see this before?

Sounds like fowl pox. Use iodine on a q-tip to dab on a little to each spot. There immune system is in high gear to fight this so get them some vitamins. I use Poly Vi Sol (WITHOUT IRON) LIQUID BABY VITAMINS. You can get it at CVS. Give 1 drop by beak in the morning and one drop at night for about 7 days and then every other day after that for another week. Keep a close watch on them because they can go down hill very fast if they get any more stressed.
