baby Chicks have mites :(

The sevin will NOT hurt your birds; not even the baby chicks. I would suggest that you more heavily dust the coop, not just lightly here and there.

Repeat every three to five days as least three times.

Oh thank god. As long as my "fuzzy butts" won't be harmed I willl do anything. Thank you so so so much for your help!!!!!!

I use DE on my grown hens. It works by cracking the exoskeleton of the pests and dehydrating them. I sprinkle in bedding, liter, brood box and have plans to mix it with sand for the run. If they ingest it will help with internal parasites.

My Silkie Hen, Tippy, just hatched 3 babies. Two are half silkie/ half Belgian D'uccle, and one is pure silkie. Two hatched yesterday 10-16-16, and the full silkie just hatched this morning 10-17-16. Around lunchtime we were holding the babies and noticed a red mite on the pure silkie, so Tippy must have had them I'm guessing? Can I put Sevin Dust on newborns? Or wait a few days? Please advise. Right now the family of 4 is in a brooder pen inside my laundry room.....

I lost three of my 4 hatchlings...one was pure silkie as well. I lost them within 12 hours of hatching. I'd read somewhere in one of the forums that you put sevin dust under the wings and around the vent. I used a q-tip and did that with the chicks. It saved the one. It was in peril and fading. The sevin dust saved it.

I am not knowledgeable about this topic. I can only say I read to do the sevin dust under the wings and around the vent. Wish I would have known sooner and most likely would have saved at least one more of the chicks. The oldest hatchling survived. The post where I received the information said you would lose chicks faster from mites than the sevin dust. If you've seen a mite, I'd dust the chicks. If they have mites, you most likely will lose them.

I hope my post saves your chicks. It was devastating to lose mine - 2 sizzles and one full silkie. Just devastating.

We lost the full silkie (my little yellow chick in above pics) Friday morning. THursday I noticed she didn't seem to be eating as much or drinking and mom kept trying to encourage her. Friday morning we found her passed away in the cage. Super sad. We'd been calling her Rocky Balboa because she had been a fighter since she was born. Both Cocoa and Chanel seem to be doing well. No evidence of mites on anyone after their treatments.
