Baby Chicks in the Mail...

Pics
I called Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. They said they guarantee the life of the chicks for 48 hours, starting from the time the customer picks them up at the post office. So a refund would be given - however, this was a customer service rep and she said the company has made no official comment or created no official policy on the issue.

Realistically, that policy may change as the death of chicks in the thousands goes unabated.

I ordered from Meyer. I know they have the guarantee or I would probably cancel at this point. Two of the four females I ordered are $23 hatchlings. I really don't want the four babies to be dead though, money back guarantee or not. It would make me horribly sad for wasted life. I did see one of the permaculture youtubers just got 100 cornish cross in the mail recently here in NC so I'm more hopeful that they do expedite the birds through the mail. I'm sure the last thing the people who handle the actual mail want to see is a box of dead animals. I just wish our politicians would be the ones who have to deal with it and see the heartbreak on the faces of the recipients. Maybe all those who receive dead chicks should email the pictures to the PMG. If mine arrive dead that's what I will do.

This is exactly how I feel. I don’t care at all about the possibility of a refund if they get held up. I know if they are all DOA, it will weigh incredibly heavy on my conscience. The safety of the chicks is more of a concern.

I have had chicks shipped to Hawaii twice in the past few months from MM. I paid for EXPEDITED shipping both times and chicks arrived in just OVER 3 days. Luckily only had a few deaths, but it did require ALOT of TLC when they arrived. Also no tracking info updates whatsoever from the post office despite paying over $100 in shipping this last time. Unfortunately only way to get certain breeds over here.
Oh and the post office DID NOT honor their 2 day guarantee for the shipping both times.

I ordered my first batch of chicks back in April, and they shipped on Monday 8/17. They arrived at the Post Office the next day on August 18th. Unfortunately, 4 of the 6 black silky chicks did not survive the journey. The 2 surviving silkies seem active and healthy.

Oh, that's awful! I'm so sorry. I hope the remaining 2 thrive.

Just in case you didn't see my other post, the people at MyPetChicken said that as far as they are aware, the issue is with very large farm orders of hundreds of chicks, not small orders. Fingers crossed!
