I have 12 one week old baby chicks who are so healthy and then I came home after my trip with the kids to see Santa, and a baby was dead in the brooder!

I have no idea what has caused this. It looked like all of them have been eating and drinking and of course pooping everywhere, I thought they were all healthy.

Does anyone know why a healthy baby chick would just die like this?

I have them inside away from drafts and a nice big heater bulb that they love to cuddle under and lots of baby chick food and lots of water.

I have no clue, I'm sure someone else will have some ideas.

Thank you flying_squirrel.
I just wanted to be a good mommy hen, and I guess I was not that for this baby.

TSA, I'm sure you're a fine chickie mommy! Don't beat yourself up over it. :aww You still have 11 healthy babies and they need you! I did notice on one of my (3-day-old) babies today it had a little pasty butt - just one of the 19. I have NO clue if that can cause horrible problems, but it's easy enough to warm a paper towel & wipe off so keep your eyes open for that.

I am so sorry you lost your little one, but you have 11 babies all waiting for your hugs and kisses - sometimes it is just one of those things you might never know what happened just spoil the ones left.
