baby duck with lots of problems

I wish I could let her hatch them all but it so hard to give them away. She was to close to the chain link fence too. A dog or anything could have grabbed her.

Patty

Yeah, I get it. I shouldn't add to the 4 I have, but it sure would be fun to hatch some...IF any of mine ever go broody, I might leave them with 3 or 4 eggs. All depends on the situation. Not to mention that I'm really wishing I had a couple of WHs.

How DO you break a duck out of bein' broody, anyway? I know with chickens all you gotta do is dunk their bellies in cold water but something tells me that won't work on a duck. ;)
My ducks if I catch them soon enough and take the eggs it will break their broody. They just find another spot and start laying in a different place. When I wanted Rob to take her pic I couldn't find her. I knew she was sitting somewhere.

I cannot break my Scovy's I just keep taking their eggs and let them sit, as long as they come out and eat and get a bit of exercise I just let it run it's course. It's kind of like a raging fever they eventually get over it.

Great. /facepalm

It was miserable with Wobbles being in season, now I gotta deal with TWO hormonal ducks, hehe! Knowing Bean she'll be a spitfire when she's broody. She's nippy as it is, when she's in maternal mode she'll probably run Hils and I out of our own house since she's not imprinted! I only hope Wobbles gets the idea and mates with Bean isntead of continuing to mount my hands and feet. Awkward.

Deb you know you will let them hatch some eggs. Then when they hatch will you want to keep them all.

Hopefully Wobbles will quit seeing you as his mate and mate with Bean. Are you going to let Bean sit on eggs? She might make her own decision on that one being that she is nippy. Fiesty little duck isn't she?

Scovy's must be like the silkie hens. Their always broody and will sit on air or a rock it doesn't matter.

Topper had 15 eggs 16 counting the one that exploded. That is way to many babies for one duck.

Patty

Yes, that's why I'm only leaving 3 or 4 eggs in the nest if we get to that point.

I'm trying to convince Hils to let Bean hatch some eggs! He says we can't have babies running around if we don't have a guaranteed home for 'em all but....c'mon, I wanna see fluffy butts!!

So now you need someone here on BYC on stand by to send you some eggs for one of your girls to hatch. Best way in the world to get the breeds you want.

Or Patty can let her duck hatch some for you
