I know it amazes me once you catch the duck it enjoys the petting and cooing. Maybe it's the thrill of the chase. lol

Glad your finally able to enjoy that pool almost. It will be worth the wait.

I put Jacky chick and Chick Norris on the free rehoming section. I hope someone wants them. I thought I would give it a try before I put them on craigs list. Keep your fingers crossed they get a good home.

I hope they find a good home Patty, My newest chicks won't even venture inside the big chicken coop, they may never but hey that's okay. First time I have had 2 clans of chickens I've had clans of ducks/drakes before though. Looks like we're not going to get to see Deb dive into her new pool when it happens. Oh well. I have 2 hens that don't lay anymore they have gone through Henopause and probably some of my others will in the next year most are over 3 yrs now. I have 1 duck my 11 yr old who lays maybe 2eggs a year now. I'm amazed she does that.

I know Deb should post a video of her swimming in that pool.

We had 2 coops for years then we downsized to the one coop. One was called the misfits coop. The chickens that got picked on would go to the misfits.

Wow 11 years old and still laying 2 eggs a year. That is good for that age. Does she still get around good? I've seen so many posts on byc of people that their ducks can't walk. Clyde is doing better but he's still wobbling. I read that pekins only live to be 5 yrs old. I hope he lives longer then that.

p.s. i hope the boys find a good home too. So does Bubba

I stuck my whole arm in the pool last night before I put chemicals in and surprisingly, it wasn't that cold. Still...I'm giving it until tomorrow night or early Saturday afternoon to warm up before I venture in.

Patty, I really think Pekins generally live longer than that, but can't recall where I was reading about average life spans.

I'm glad the water isn't that cold with all the sun (yeah) we have it should heat it up more.

I hope I'm wrong about the pekins living only five years thats not long enough. I want them to live forever.

My 11 yr old duck gets around good but she does have some duck dementia and Ernie who is also 11 can walk but it's not easy. He does fine in his yard with is girls AS long as i keep Opie away from him, Ernie will try to fight with Opie but Ernie doesn't molt any more so if he loses feathers they don't come back, his wings are pitiful where he has had fights at times and has broken his wing feathers off. I do my best to keep them separated but sometimes they will even fight through the fence, crazy things and Ernie will start it.

Duck dementia oh no another thing I have to look forward to when my ducks get old. Does she forget her name or if she has ate or where she parked her car. Please explain and I would love to know her name. Ernie (omg that name) starts fights with Opie. Are you sure Opie isn't sticking his tongue out or something at Ernie? Poor Ernie losing his feathers and then he can't even grow them back.

I forgot to answer your question a while ago. Yes I remember Mr. Rogers. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood and that stupid sweater he always took off. Rob and Josh used to watch his show all the time.

Shirley who is named in honor of most special Aunt, gets confused and cannot handle any excitement. {she is kind of like me] lol I keep her and Ruth Ann and Ernie in the front and side yard of our house. Ernie loves his girls and they adore him. Shirley will still huff at me when I put them to bed to let me know she doesn't want any cuddles.

Opie probably does start the fights he gets on the other side of the fence and does his Muscovy noises and Ernie has to protect his side of the fence.Last time they fought through the fence Opie had his head stuck through and Ernie was literally hanging on the side of the fence[ Muscovy's can climb] Ernie surprised me on that one though. So now I put the plastic poultry fencing there so they can still huff and puff at each other but no fighting.

Ernie hasn't molted in probably 3 yrs. his wings are so beat up I have to put meds on them. Shirley gets wet feather about this time every year but she still molts thank goodness because she needs to be weather proof before cold and snow get here. Ernie spends most of his winter days in one of the dog houses we have set up for our old ones to use in the day time to get out of the weather. We call it the old folks home on this side of the fence.
