I just got a baby goose today. We got it home and the whole side of the beak, including nostril, was caked in mud. Its 3 weeks old. I washed the dirt off but it keeps rubbing that side of the beak on everything and that side of the face puffs up when it breathes and is having a hard time breathing. Is there anything I can do to help it clean the nostril?

I can´t understand what you mean by the face puffs up when it breathes? Can´t imagine this.
Can you not see clearly through the nares now? Well, maybe it has an infection? You could go to the feedstore and get some microbiotic for it like Baytril, make sure they give you the dosage. You´d only need a very small amount.
but please explain this puffing up?

The side of its face between the bill and eye puffs in and out on one side like its is stuffy and the air can't get out. I tried rinsing and carefully wiping around the nostril with a cutip. Its better today but still puffing out. Will try the meds. Thank you, I haven't had a goose since I was a kid so any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Try putting some Apple Cider vinegar in the drinking water 1-2 Tab to 1 gal of water making sure the bucket bowl is deep enough for it to dunk it's head in, ACV has antibacterial proprieties and may help rinse out any kind of nasties that may have been in the mud. Make sure gosling can't climb inside what ever you give it to drink out of.

Something like this works well just don't make the hole too big so baby can't climb in then you can always enlarge as it's grow.

Brilliant, MLyd. I forgot to mention about enough water to dip the head in...so important.

Not good. She seems very weak. Breathing is better but she won't get up and keeps shaking her head quite often. I went back to where I got her and all he said was if it doesn't make it he will give me a replacement. :( I don't want a replacement, I want to save this one. She's in a warm dry box with bedding inside the bathroom. I gave her the acv water. She hasn't gotten up all morning.

Makes me wonder if she may have some kind of parasite inside her sinus with the head shaking, I know people are so heartless sometimes or saying things like that makes you think they are anyway. Is there any way a vet might work out for you? How old again?

3 weeks. I'm giving it electrolytes and antibiotics with a dropper from the feed store. The man there was quite helpful. The baby just has no interest in food or water at all. And is very very sleepy. It falls to one side when it stands. Will keep trying, maybe tomorrow it will show some improvements. Thank you again
