Poultry

Some interesting and useful advice… including curing feather eating, egg eating, snow and grit, what you should keep over, the production differences between American and English bred Leghorns associated with comb size and so on

We got this recipe from a chicken and exotic bird breeder...
Anti parasitic, Great for colours, feathers and combs, Good for their gut and has some Carbohydrates and Protein...

2 x cups rice cooked Al dente...drain and let cool...
Mix with
1 good sized bunch of fresh Oregano chopped finely...
1/2 cup Coconut oil...
2 x 125g cans of Sardines in Tomato Sauce...
Separate into 4 x plastic containers, freeze 3 and keep one in the fridge...

We originally used it as a treat, but with the difference it made to our 4 Pekin girls, we now give them a little each day when we feed them layer mix...They scoff it down first and then fill up on the layer mix...
I snagged this from another thread. Posting it here so I can find it latter… I am going to make a version of this to try out on the girls

Aw, thanks Laura, am excited to see your posts here on this blog and Peepers is in a very good place!. Very interesting stuff your posts!! I enjoy reading those old articles too. My chick too is very active, trying to already jump out of the brooder. I think I will need to do something like you did to prevent flying since they are showing signs of flight already!

Yes, Peepers is testing his wings out too.

There is a couple ways to make the lid. You can build one from wood and some sort of netting, garden fencing, screen or meshing. Or you can use the lid that comes with the tote and cut two sections out and sandwich the screening over the holes with strips of the light thin wood or cut the scrap plastic and using some sort of heavy duty glue to adhere it together.

One nice thing is you can make multiple ones that can be stacked, the brooder supplies can be stored in the tote brooder and if you keep one extra lid intact put that on top… to keep everything nice and tidy till next use.

Totally not chicken related, but related to the old texts.

The letter f was used for both f and s, except when the s was at the end of the word. I saw capital S used in the middle of a word, when it was the lead in for a paragraph. (I think it was the word "abscess.")

Ok, so I notice weird stuff. I learned this back in 10th grade. In 11th grade, a teacher wrote

fpafm

on the board and said he'd give whomever could pronounce it correctly $5. A few kids tried. Then I raised my hand and said, "Spasm." He was very surprised and never did give me my $5. :gig
