Greetings all!

I'm Torrie.

After almost a decade without, we (me and my mother) decided to get back into the saddle and start raising chickens, and needed a refresher course on the finer points of bringing up chicks. We had Rhode Island Reds before, but have six Red Rangers (a kind of test run) and are looking to get some Wyandottes. Nothing like fresh large eggs, I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone here. But we also love the manure they bring to the garden. As for me, we really just do a lot of the same things others do on their homesteads (with the exception of livestock, as we're working up to that) but I also do a lot of leather-working and artwork and writing, creative and technical stuff.

I found BYC the most direct way--search engine, looking for an answer to a question regarding chicken boredom and suitable solutions. Someone mentioned cat danglers and pie pans and so far, so good. I've yet to find a xylophone :D but we have a few weeks before they feather-out (fledge? that seems to be a wing thing) and need more interactivity in their new home where we can attach one to a post for them.
