Should we perhaps open up a thread devoted to fruit tree cultivation??? I think that would be a great thread, and help keep all the tree stuff in one location.

The Jewel and Romeo and a third are bush like, multi stemmed. ten foot spread, unless kept pruned.
Standard trees are about 20 high and 15 wide. SO you might look at the dwarf cherries, or those listed above.
Or the Nanking.
Personally I like sour, aka tart cherries. I buy the frozen mix. Most people like the sweet for fresh eating and the tart for pie. Has anyone used sweet cherries for pie??
Sweet need 2 for pollination. sour are self pollinating. A few exceptions.
Often you need more than one tree for pollination.
Thank you! So do the trees have to be right next to each other? Not sure I have room for 2 in the garden but I could also put them elsewhere.
And what cherries are in frozen fruit mixes and also in the jars? The jarred ones are pretty gross but the frozen ones are good.
To learn the most, take the time to reseach the different variteties. MANY nurseries with descriptions to learn from. Some cherry varieties are very small compared to a mid size tree or a huge 30 foot variety. Some varieties are naturally smaller, some are put on dwarfing stock.
All nurseries will list if self-fertile or not.
