Backyard Brahmas!!

Pics
I am curious what people's experience is with egg size. Mine will be starting their first full fledged year of laying this spring. I have heard many reports of jumbo Brahma eggs and was just curious if any one has had that experience. Mine were about a medium through the fall but are now close to a large store egg (sorry no scale). If there are pics that would be good too. Thanks!!

According to breed information, we were expecting medium size eggs, but one of our LB lays eggs that are officially Jumbo, according to the industry weights. She evidently didn't get the memo on Brahma egg size!!

SD Bird Lady, I'm so glad I found this thread!
I've had a tough time figuring if I was making a huge mistake with hatchery Brahmas. I even cancelled my order when I was told they'd be mean, and re-ordered when I figured out that I was misinformed.
I'm working on the run now that Spring is finally here. My girls will be here mid June. It's a late date, but needed the extra time to get ready for them.
Don't know if you remember, but you gave me good info by pm's regarding roost heights, etc. And yes, the "true to breed" thread has scared me off several times.
So glad to be here!

So glad you have Brahmas ordered...you will LOVE them. We kept ours in a dog crate in the bathtub while the coop was in progress. They are none the worse for it, in fact, their first day out in their own house, they came to the back door asking to come back in. too funny!!

Hello. Moving here from the Brahma thread after I learned that my birds did not qualify as brahmas because their legs are the wrong color and a couple have straighter combs than is "necessary". I feel like I'm in limbo because they say they aren't brahmas and the breeder says they're crazy.

I don't care, they're beautiful birds and that's all that matters to me.

They are all beautiful!!!!

Here's another pic. My first Brahma, Rocky. I posted him on the Brahma thread a few years ago and was horrified at all the faults that were pointed out on him. I think he's beautiful, anyway! Now, he's an old man, crippled with arthritis, and is living out the rest of his life in his own private coop and run.
He is such a beautiful boy!

I like this thread and I agree, I don't care at all about "show birds." They are pretty but not practical to me. I don't presently have any Brahmas but I'm thinking about getting some...from a hatchery! lol

Take care all and enjoy your chickens! :) (Post more pics!)

I am having camera troubles so no pics ...But, I was wondering if anyone else is amazed at how well their girls clean up their feathered feet? Mine can go to "bed" with mud on every foot feather and the next morning they are white again (well ivory). I don't know how they do it since they don't have a tongue like a cat or dog to lick them clean.
