Backyard chickens in Buffalo Grove, IL

Does anybody know if hens are allowed in Buffalo Grove, IL? More specifically, the Lake County portion of Buffalo Grove. If it’s not allowed, how can we get the ordinance changed??

Go to city hall and ask. Getting laws changed is like pulling teeth. Politicians are hard headed in their set ways.
So, after you check,,, there may be restrictions, such as; 6 hens limit; or absolutely no roosters, or such ridiculous rules like,,,,,, you need to have 5 acres lot.
Nothing is of course impossible,,, but there are many hurdles to go over. You would need a large following of people that want chickens.
Next door to us in Northlake Illinois, chickens were not allowed until recently overturned. Franklin Park still not allowing as of yet. That is also next door over town.

Thank you! I called city hall this morning and they’re not allowed. I’ve sent an email to a village trustee who works with animal ordinances to see what I can do to have this overturned. I just want fresh eggs for my family!!

Sometimes, if chickens are not allowed, you can ask for a variance.
