Hello! I'm a longtime lurker who is finally joining because we're going to do our first hatch, instead of supplementing our flock with chicks. I'm pretty nervous, but really excited.

Right now, our flock includes: Black Australorp, White-crested Polish Tophat, Ameraucana, Jersey Brown, and Silver-Laced Wyandotte.

I'm most eager to add Cream Legbar and some Marans, and am also interested in Welsummer.

We built our own coop and run, which was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to hatching and maybe even breeding some of our own. I think the genetics behind chickens is fascinating!

So glad you decided to join BYC - most of us began as lurkers. You may want to check out the hatching threads as well as some of the Hatch-a-thons.

Hi! Very cool. Where are you in central New Jersey. We are from Monmouth county. If you are interested we have cream and lavender legbar pullets and marans chicks.

Hi! We're in northwest Mercer County. Howdy, neighbour! Right now I'm looking specifically for hatching eggs. If you happened to have some Cream Legbar eggs, that would be awesome!

    Glad you're here !

A must have for your poultry is a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise. (
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. ( Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!

One last thing, if you're into gardening, feel free to join this years SEED SWAP (

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out :D

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.
