Bad brest blister.

First off, I can't take her to the vet, dad doesn't take chickens to the vet, I dotn have money.

My old hen sits alot and has developed a brest blister. It had started healing once I cured her bumble foot but as she's gotten older it's come back. Its formed into something much like bumble foot. So I thought I should treat it the same way. It was already open but I cut it a little winder and got some of the yellow gunk out but its really really connected to the skin. In some places pulling it off seemed to be going way too deep and I'm not sure what to do.

I've got it bandaged now and washed it with saline and have been bringing her into sleep on soft bedding.

Part of my figgured there's not much that can be done because at the end out the day she's gonna keep siting on the ground and even if it gets better it's will just come back. But maybe if she sleeps in a soft place at night it would be enough.

This is how it was before I did anything, it's like a pocket in her skin with an opening.

This is after I cleaned it out and opened it a bit. The yellow stuff almost seems to be replacing the skin, it seems like it's fused right to the layer under the skin. I don't know if I should remove it.

The bits pointed at seem like the layer of tissue under the skin to me. I can see capillaries runing through it. so I feel I shouldn't remove the puss anymore because I don't want to cut down so much.Is that the right move or should I just the rest out?

Sorry your girl is ailing! You were right to clean that wound out - this might seem like a weird question, but did it smell funky? That can be a clue to how bad it is. It's possible that what you're looking at is just fat tissue, but other folks should chime in soon hopefully. Until then, your best - and cheapest - option is to pack that wound with triple antibiotic ointment, like Neosporin, WITHOUT pain relief.

Breast blisters can form abscesses. You have it cleaned up, and I would clean it with Hibiclens or chlorhexidene and half water, then apply plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment twice a day. Those would be less irritating than using Betadine. Make sure that she rests or roosts on soft bedding. If she roosts you can use padding on them to soften them. Any wet bedding or sharp bedding can irritate it.

Yes, it does smell a bit, but only from close up and its not an absolutely awful smell, still concerning. I do not belive it is fat tissue I think it's an absess, as Eggsessive said. I will get some of ointment as soon as possible, with it being Easter that is difficult, bad timing. Thank you very much.

I do belive that is exactly what happened. I will make sure she sleeps on soft bedding and get antibiotics as soon as I can. Thank you
