bad day at school today about chickens........

i know i'm the only BYCer at my school, and everyone thinks i'm crazy about chickens. today poor chickens of all kinds got made fun of today!!!! many people said things like this: chickens are wierd!, i like chickens...Fried!, i choped off a chickens head once., theres a website about chicks!?, so backyardchickens.com is website for chickens in a backyard?, chickens live in backyards?, i love KFC!, chickens are dumb!, HE TRIED TO CALL HIS PET! (i was calling MPC) so your going to have chickens?(they said that as if i'm going to lay eggs and hatch them), i know chickens go BUCK BUCK BUCK!, Etc. i hear that all day almost every day at school! i need help on what to tell them....... please email me some stuff (by clicking the email button to the left) so i can show them, inclood (please don't mind speeling mistakes i make) stories of chicken bravery, how smart they can be, and show them that there are people even crazier about chickens than i am (they don't belive that there are more people who are sooooo crazy for chickens) Thanks!

Kids said I was weird for liking chickens, and I agreed with them! Why bother being the same as the rest. Stick for what you like and who cares what they say? Shoot, you can do what I did, raise up layers, sell their eggs to teachers in school as a little business. They'll keep going for you if you show them you don't like it. Take the attention as "positive" and they'll get bored and pick on someone else.

Reply: They do taste good, did you know there are meat types of birds and layer types? KFC uses meat types of birds ready for market. (educate them)

Reply: Decapitation is the best and fastest way to cull, don't forget to rest the meat before you eat. Else you'll be chewing on rubber! There is a lot of informatoin online about chickens, care to see some of them?

I had a kid make fun of me when I was in the 6th grade for having a japanese coin on my necklace. I just replied, thanks, it was a gift from an exchange student. They got embarrassed and never said anything again.

Oh, don't listen to them! They were just being annoying. Most people don't know a lot about chickens, and even as an adult I'll still get people who make dumb comments about me keeping poultry. ("Oh, yum, I love KFC! I'll eat your chickens!" "They're bantams, there's not really much there to eat..."

) I agree with Camelot Farms, it's best to just ignore them and walk away. Be the better person by not responding to their taunts. If they don't give it up, let a teacher know you're being teased.

If you ever get a chance to do a project in front of the class, perhaps you could do it on the intelligence of chickens, their value as pets, the benefits of keeping chickens (pest control, manure, eggs, etc.), how diverse the chicken breeds are, how keeping them prevents allows you to get out of the system of buying eggs from battery hens, and maybe even some information about sustainability. There are lots of reasons to keep chickens, and I'll bet your classmates haven't even thought of them at all. It might help educate them on chickens and why you like them so much. You could also print and show them this information:

Of course, here at BYC there are lots of people who understand the love for chickens and appreciate them.

Remember you're not alone, and your classmates are just being immature.

here is a comparasin of my new and old schools:
old school: encouraged me to get chickens, everyone loved me and chickens! my english teacher said she'd never seen anyone with some much passion for something! (she was talking bout me) i had even convinced my sience teacher to hatche chicken eggs!
new school: mocked me and chickens, there is one person that knows what chickens are like because she has lots of em, but is not a BYCer and is not THAT crazy about them. everyone thinks i'm wierd because of my passion, even some people have the same amount of passion for dirtbiking, heavy metal music, and mocking people.

That used to happen to me. 10th grade I got my chickens and found BYC and had NO home internet. I used it during computer class and they get over it after a while. This year they actually think they are cute. We live in the country but it's quickly becoming a suburb

and there are people that think chickens breed by spraying the eggs and a bunch of other dumb stuff. Ignore the ones that are being stupid but share knowledge on serious questions. Chickens are a real convo peice.
