I for one really appreciate you posting this. I had no idea that most people were saying it jokingly (except when they had a smiley). I've also seen this kind of comment repeatedly, including as advice for "how to convince my spouse" and it just seemed like really bad advice to me and had me a little worried about those relationships! I am an aspie, and sometimes don't get subtle tongue-in-cheek comments.
No matter what I may post on about my wife, or how mean
she is the truth I love her with all that I am. We've been together
since the 10th grade.
36 years.
I don't bother to lie to her, or try to hide anything. Wouldn't that
be pretty pointless? If I find the need to lie to her, I better be thinking
about what I need to be doing.

ohhh. Two of my closer friends have aspergers, and I have learned to smile (after I told them for now on I will smile when I am joking) when I make a sarcastic remark to let them know I am joking. They now lean over to look at my face to make sure I am joking.
More so, I think I am saddened for the marriage that one spouse must ask permission before using their own decision-making skills. I say, "dont tell my husband...he will never notice the six extra chickens in our flock of 'two' " Do people really think that is truth? And if it was, and he really didnt notice, does it hurt anything?
"Oh we have a new cat. Dont tell my hubby. Its orange. The other two are orange- he will never notice."
In fairness-" new fishing pole?"" What, this old thing? I had it for years...." "Really/ And you never even got the price tag wet..."
Im glad my marriage is a partnership, not a permission-based relationship. We are there for each other in times of joy, sadness, sickness, need, and bliss, etc...we share good times and bad, definitely not to babysit one another.
