Wow. I totally admire you! Not just saying that either. That is the outlook I'd love to have if only I had the guts. Already I am trying to distance myself from the one chick we have that we suspect may be a rooster. And that's just because we'll have to give him away. Before we got them, I told myself I wouldn't get too attached so that they could come to the table when they had had about 5 good years or so. Now I know I couldn't do it even then. In my head the meat=animals thing has not come to the point where having no name will help...I'd have to never see their faces! Even tho I know how much better it would be for all of us to have that kind of control over our food.

well, thanks. that definitely makes me feel good (and probably more likely to get the job done!).

my mother's friend said the same thing when i asked if she wanted to be one of my first customers. she just can't believe that i would eat them. but, she also can't eat anything with bones still in it because that's too much of a reminder that they were alive. i definitely understand the sentiment, but i miss eating meat. it's tasty. so i'm doing what i have to do because it's about the only way i'm going to eat meat again.

Don't get me wrong...I'm definitely an omnivore. I've just never had to "meet" my "meat". I just can't raise an animal without falling in love with it. And I can't eat anything I love. My kids can attest to that. I should have gobbled them up years ago!
