Bag out of Layena package (updated w tutorial)

For those who are making bags does the thread type seem to matter and is a regular needle working on this material okay? None of the directions mention this so I am not sure if it matters but wanted to ask.

I've been using regular thread and needle. Did break one, but that was probably my own fault

The fabric store calls it "webbing." It's on the wall by their ribbon/trim by the yard and comes in cotton, polypropalene, and nylon. I've used all of the above for dog collars. I didn't like working with the polypro. for collars, but it's probably the cheapest option and would probably work fine for handles.

I have around 6 horse feed bags I got some horse doo in and have been saving them for something like this. Oh great, another project! hehe. I'll post a pic when I finish one. My chicken feed also comes in paper bags. I will be looking out for the plastic ones, trust me!

Jen,

Could you tell me what the webbing material is? or post some photos when done

I think I have 4 of the pink breast cancer bags and several purina dog/cat food bags.

Here is a pic of the "strapping, webbing" that I purchased. It is now in my sink turning "pink"

My webbing is cotton. I don't know what happened to my pic. I can post another one of the one I dyed if anyone is interested.

A pic would be great, thanks!

Is the cotton webbing like what some use for straps or handles on home-made totes/bags?

and, yes pictures would be great if you can get them to load.

Thanks
