Bag out of Layena package (updated w tutorial)

I'm sure you can buy patterns for these bags (McCall's? Simplicity?) and use the poly material. Oh, I wish I had a sewing machine!!!

The rice I buy here in Canada at Costco the bag is already made into these bags, and they have put a zipper at the top to close it. They have the rice inside it in a flimsy paper liner and the zipper is zap strapped shut so the product is secure till sale. I love that companies are thinking ahead in these regards.

I wish any chicken feed was sold in these bags in Canada, nothing I have ever seen. The sunflower seed bag on the thread at SS is fantastic! I'd love to make some but no such material here.

I love the look of these bags but can not get my sewing machine to work right on them. The bottom thread gets all tangled until it's in a huge messy knot and I have to tear it all out and try to start all over again. I tried to adjust the tension on the bottom thread but it did not help... any suggestions?

not sure my threads mess up a little too depending on how many times I go over it. I have to sew really slow on the top and the handles, but I used my serger for the bottom originally so that helped ease it a bit.
My only suggestion is make sure you have a nice heavy weight thread and then sew slowly.

oh now I really want one of those horse feed bags! My daughter loves horses and that would be perfect for her (she's only 8 lol)

I was so happy when we started getting feed in the poly bags. I was going to save them and sew them together to use as a tarp to cover the outside of my coop for the winter. The coop is just chicken wire and open on 3 sides just need tarp as a wind break.
Then I made my first bag....................
I have made a improvment in them I would like share. At frist I put a pocket on the inside then some one said she wanted her pocket on the outside. So now I am putting pockets on both the inside and outside. To make them easier to sew I put one on each side at the bottom on the side of the bag before I sew the bottom togethter. I use a 6 1/2 inch square for the pocket and put a small pleat in the center of the pocket
Heres a few pics

I put something in the pocket so it was easier to see it
