this is a very cute idea.
I am going to make a sample one out of a Purina cat chow bag for our humane society thrift shop.
We have a great group pf ladies who like to do projects for the shop. they will love this idea.
thanks!
(check out www.lebanonhumane.org to find our fantastic thrift shop if you live in the central pa area)

Soneone else had made bags out of the pink Layena bags. I have four bags waiting to be sewn.
The pink bags are for breast cancer. I know the pink ones are still available, at least at my store.
Instead of using the bottom for straps, I'm using that webbing material. Not so stiff and crackley as the bag.

I made 5 this weekend. Soon as I busted them out at work, people want them. I now have about 140lbs of chicken feed 'cause I wanted another pink bag!

Awesome! Thanks so much for the tutorial. I saw some of these bags in the auction section and was going to email the seller and ask if they had a pattern, but now I don't have to. I have a few bags that have been sitting on the back porch and these would be perfect for carting home pulled weeds et al from the garden this summer (we rent a garden plot at the local community garden). I might even make a few for gifts too.

This is how sick I am

the sewing machine I ordered just so I could sew again and make free bags out of my layer pellet sacks arrived today and I just unpacked it!

the rate of return will be a little bit. Also wanted to mention there is a girl on facebook that is making and selling these. Does a very nice job from what I can see. She is in WA state. just search by feed sack bags I think.

Jen,

Could you tell me what the webbing material is? or post some photos when done

I think I have 4 of the pink breast cancer bags and several purina dog/cat food bags.

It's just cotton. I think it's called strapping. I'll post a pic of the strapping tomorrow.
