Banning pit bulls in Ohio

"Lock jaw" is a myth. Yes they are strong dogs and they are stubborn but they cannot lock their jaw. All larger breed dogs can do a heap of damage when they do bite.

Breed banning of any breed is not the answer. Most people don't even know what a "pit bull" is, and that it isn't even a breed just a nickname of the bully breeds. Yes my dogs are loving dogs, I take the same care and precautions with all breeds of dogs, not just bully breeds. They are animals regardless and I think alot of people forget that. Some dogs are just dangerous (many breeds), but then there are those who sat for an hour being poked in the eye by the child while the parent sat and laughed. I realize that some dogs will just take it but should they have to???? I know it has been stated but I will say it again.....bad owners USUALLY end up with "bad" dogs. I stress the usually because there are just dogs who turn for no apparent reason to the human. Those dogs that are honestly dangerous should be dealt with humanely.

I have to agree. Why keep an animal that could kill you as a pet when there are so many others to choose from? My cocker spaniel has the potential to turn, like any other dog does, but would never be a lethal danger to an adult human being (or most children). That is, if he suddenly "went insane" and attacked, I am quite confident that I would win the fight.

Thats just stupid its not the breed its the way they are raised!!! dogs a dog it doesn't matter if its a pit, poodle, or great dane there all the same just different sizes!!!

Not all pit bulls are breed to be these MONSTER sized dogs..... my 2 1/2 yr. old pittie is only 50 lbs. Everyone always asks me if he's a puppy and look at me funny when I say, no, this is as big as he gets

I guarantee if he ever got into a fight I could handle him. Our old dog Bridget was 65 lbs and she got the CRAP beat out of her by a Rottie.

bsl law is dangerous. it starts today with pitties and then who is next? the saints? the german shepards? dobies? all dog people should object to this type of law. because it is possibly your dog next.... i believe in dangerous dog legislation but not bsl. there are laws against dangerous people too.

no one has been bitten by my dogs except by the tiny one. she is the most ferocious, she weighs only 9 lbs. i do not let her near children, and she is never allowed out alone.

my pittie female vegas was stalked and attacked by a rescued saint bernard who caused her all sorts of damage, and the saint would not let go, where vegas did when told to stop. my husband had to choke out the saint to make her release. the saint shook her like a toy and she is 60 lbs. my male pittie zeke ran out of the room and hid. needless to say the saint had to go to an experienced rescue who have had no problems with her but are aware of her possibility or she would have gone to the rainbow bridge. she can never be trusted.

my pitties ( now 3 rescued ) i trust to respond to me immediately and with my life.
i would be willing to show what ever authority i can handle them on and off lead if necessary and they are licensed by my town/state. however they are not allowed out with out supervision. for their own protection

I groomed dogs at one time in my life, and I can honestly say the only dog I was afraid of was a poodle. My pitt probably weights about 70lbs but is the biggest chicken you will find anywhere. I have had the vet sew her chest up twice because a dog jumped on her. She just rolled over and let them bite-her.BUT, she has been spayed, raised with other animals andchildren.SoI still say IT'S THE OWNER NOT THE DOG.

Well, there goes my horses and dogs. My chickens, too, I suppose - I might get bird flu or salmonella someday.

Is it okay with you if we keep guppies?

What about other things that might kill us, like cars, swimming pools, barbeque grills, canoes and baseball bats?

I don't think anyone should single out a breed. I think it is all how you raise them. I have been bit by several different breeds of dogs due to my profession and trust me they were not all pitbulls. Even the tiny yappy dogs can bite (ankle biters) and be aggresive towards adults and kids.

I think they will have a hard time passing the ban.

I just wanted to repeat what guitarartists stated early on in this discussion. This legislation has more to do with taking more of our rights away than it has to do with pit bulls.
People think...oh, pitbulls kill children...that's a bad thing. Let's do away with them. We need a law. No, we already have laws about vicious dogs...we have had them for years.
I am strongly against any new laws that protect people from their own stupidity. Like seatbelt laws, helmet laws. Yes, buckle your kids up, they aren't old enough to make an informed decision yet. But, that should fall in with child endangerment laws....which are already on the books. I wear a seatbelt...I always have and always will....but I don't need the government to dictate to me how to keep myself safe.
What do seatbelts and pitbulls have in common? It's just common sense that doesn't have to be legislated and then enforced by the government. If you don't care that you would be safer wearing a seatbelt, then that's your choice.
If you choose to own a dog that has the potential to be vicious...again your choice. I chose not to own a pitbull...but I am letting my representatives know that I don't want my choice taken away to do so if I did want to.
We can't keep letting the government pick away at our freedoms because it seems like a safer way to live...or because something has the potential to harm us. We have brains, and common sense to decide these things for ourselves and the freedom to make those choices. We don't need more legislation to protect us from ourselves. We lose a little more freedom each time we do.

That has got to be the dumbest comment I've ever heard! So lions and tigers and bears (oh my) should be killed off because they have the power to kill people? What is up with people these days who think they have the right to be God and deside what animals get to live and what has to die. There are terrible people out there too, they should be all killed of I guess.
