Yep! I wish this were a more dinner- friendly bird, though! I can't keep him and we've got Marek's so I won't rehome him. I'll hang on until he crows, of course, to be sure.

I'm trying to figure out my kids colors. They are 12 weeks old.
My little Black one (Onix) is now showing color on his hackle and his back.



My little Blue chick (Touri) turned black darn it! So is she still a BLUE or not?



Is my little boy (Toast) Mottled?



And I thought she (Biscuit) was Mottled when she was smaller, now... Laced?


They are so cute and soft!!

And of course my Adults Blueberry & Tourchick (just started laying 2 weeks ago!)

I wish he hadn't grown up and got so much RED on him!

I just saw this thread! I only saw a Cochin thread before. Here are our Mottled and Blue Bantam Cochins. LOVE these guys. Been breeding them a few years now. They are so much fun!!

She said my Laced/Mottled look more to be 'Incomplete Laced' to her.
Your thoughts?
She said as long as 'Touri' doesn't have the "beetle green sheen" then she's still Blue.

Your black and white ones look more like silver laced....just with incomplete lacing. And your blue could just be a really dark blue. They come in many different shades.

I came home today to find one of my Buff Orpington pullets evidently a hawk casualty in the door way to the covered coop run. She was still warm! Looks like she was on her way down the hill just shy of safety. My first preditor loss ever. Sucks!
On a good note though I just candled my eggs. Seems like maybe 12 out of 20 orpingtons, 6 out of 8 Easter Eggs, 8 out of 10 Silkies and 9 out of 10 Bantam Cochins are fertil. Yippie.

So sorry you lost a baby ..I hate hawks ..
you let them out when you are not home ? We only let them out when we are home .
I have saved our chickens from Foxes & Hawks that have attacked them..
A good Roo helps too ...I have 3 right now ..they see danger before I do ...A early warning system

I have been told LF black chickens will deter Hawks. Hawk thinks they are giant crows. I've always kept black australorps and never had hawk problems even though my neighbors do

That's a good Idea, thanks. I have a Black Australorp pair in the main run.
I have around 70 multiple chickens in the main run,
now 7 Buff

, Splash pair and a Blue roo Orpingtons in separate run. Its a 4x8 house in a 12x14 fence top run (half with a roof for rain and snow) then they a run to top of hill 16x50 with a briar and poke patch.
and OEGB pens, coverd & tractor
and Splash Laced Red Wyandott tractor
and French Blue Copper Marans tractor
soo to be a Bantam Cochin pen, covered
and free range Silkie pair, (a good bit of the time when their shelf gets sorta dirty till I can clean it
but I do have a black hen that growels all at me all the time (her name is Grumpy

), was told is a BJG but I don't think so. Is there a solid black wyandott?

She's shaped like them, to my eye anyway.
I could put her in with the Orpingtons, but I don't know what her egg color is and we want to breed the Orpingtons.
