BANTAM COCHINS CLUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got a nice handful of Cochins from Ideal two weeks ago. Beautiful assortment, but should I worry about so much comb on them at this point?

They are beautiful!
I bought a 6 week old, who appeared pullet and was sold as pullet. Cupid showed no physical signs of roo until he crowed. I had already put a princess crown on his leg and bought a saddle with a matching diaper.. purple and with tool. .

I'm only asking becaubit I have 4 cochin chicks who I will need to figure out sex with. Any other breed I dealt with, all 3 of those would be definite males. Do cochins get bigger, pinker combs early? I noticed with my silver laced Wyandotte that her comb got bigger than usual and a little pink earlier than I am used to but she is definitely a female. So is it the same with cochins?
Mine got big combs earlier so to me, the white and gold laced look a bit Iffy...

I love, love, love my new little fuzz ball! She's 7 days old now and I picked her out of a group of 3 black chicks from a breeder. Today I noticed that she has one new feather with a touch of white on it. Is there a chance that she is not going to be solid black? I believe she is too dark to be a mottled Cochin, but this is my first time owning chickens so I'm not sure. Also, she's growing much slower than the standard size pullets I have? Is that typical for bantams or is that an indicator that she is actually a he? At what age are you usually able to tell if a bantam Cochin is a pullet or cockerel? Thanks for answering all of my questions! Everyone on this site is so much help!

Hi There!:frow

That is one cute baby you have there!!!! So my Bantam cochin that ended up being black with a green sheen had white feather for quite while.
244.jpg baby
294 (2).jpg notice the white on her feet..on her wings too but hard too see IMG_1092.JPG Just on her foot feathers
20161105_104521.jpg No white at all
As far as growth...it is hard to compare them to a standard sized cochins because they are smaller. I can sometimes get an idea if chicks are male/female by how fast or slow they get their feathers in. But again that is comparing bantam to bantam! Love the fluffy butt pics:D

White pops up....

She will most likely molt it later on...

Usually blacks with white feathers have really yellow feet*desired)

I will!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my cochin bantams! I have 55 and will have about 150 by summer. I will be breeding these and silkies, but the cochin is my #1 fav!

I have almost every color and hope to have them all when Im done putting my breeding flocks togather. Im revamping my barn to house them and also getting some chicken breeding condo coops for when breeding for certin colors. I cant wait till spring!
